Welcome to Blenheim Class

Welcome to Blenheim Class.
We are a year five and six class, who are taught by Miss Tucker and supported by Mrs Slade and Ms Steer.  In Blenheim Class, we are really proud of our learning and of our excellent commitment. We work to be the best role models and caring citizens that we can be.
We hope that you enjoy looking at our achievements, which we will be sharing and celebrating over the year.

This term, in Blenheim Class, we are learning about Space as our topic: ‘Reach for the Stars’. Following a successful WOW Day to launch our learning, we will extend our understanding of the movement of the Sun, Earth and Moon and of the planets of our solar system. We will use our knowledge of ratio, scale and measuring throughout our topic learning.

At the start of each day, we will use our spelling, punctuation and grammar skills. In English, are writing a non-chronological report about Mars and then an independent piece about our own fictional planet. We will also work on our narrative writing and on poetry including writing a poem called, ‘The Launch’. Each half term, we intend to learn about a non-fiction, fiction and poetry unit.

In maths, we will focus on our number fluency skills every day, with a written arithmetic task three times each week. We are learning about fractions in the first part of the term, extending to further our understanding of decimals and percentages as we move towards half term. The Year 6 children will then move to working on some algebra and ratio learning. This is particularly exciting because, whilst children may feel apprehensive about these less familiar topics, I am excited that they will enjoy feeling confident by the end of the unit. The Year 5 children will extend their understanding of multiplication and division in these key weeks.

Throughout the term, we will continue to enjoy our French, P.E., ICT and R.E. learning and we will have Forest School sessions in alternating weeks.
